ON TV: Upcoming air dates for guest star appearances

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 At Work, Service Comments Off

Oops! So it turns out the episode of The Mentalist (click here to see photo) that I was on aired last week, and I forgot to update the blog. Ahhh. So am trying to be better about this in advance of the next ones… On that note~ the pilot episode for MEN AT WORK (on TBS) will be airing later this month (on May 24th) so here’s your advanced notice, and a cute sneak peek pic from the episode :-)

I still don’t know when the BONES episode (on FOX) will air,  I do know it’s called “The But in the Joke” -and is the 16th episode of Season 7. Actually, if you want to know more, click here to read a longer article.

Also, I have a bit part in an jam-packed action movie called Get the Gringo with Mel Gibson that is being released this month on DirectTV… Here’s the link if you want to check that out! And I am leaving for Romania next week to shoot the movie Wer, which I am excited about… They pushed the dates back one more week, so I have been busy auditioning right now, along with doing some V/O work (lots of video games lately!!! Too bad I can’t talk about them- NDA’s and all…) And, lastly, I have of course been very busy volunteering with my favorite non profits- Angel City Pit Bulls and the new Best Friends’ initiative, NKLA (p.s. Click on the pic to the right to learn more, it’s pretty amazing stuff!)

Anyway, thanks again for caring and will write more soon, promise!

GUEST STAR: The League; a couple of Indie Movies; and… long overdue update!

Friday, August 26th, 2011 At Work, In-Motion Pix, Musings and Reflection, Service Comments Off

Ahhh! Happy Summer to you all. Hope you’ve been enjoying it so much you’re behind on all your blogging as well :-)

What fun job stuff can I tell ya? Last month I filmed a fun li’l guest star spot on the FX show “The League”– which was a unique and cool experience… First time ever showing up to a set and having no idea what I was doing that day. They improvise most of their dialogue- so I did not get a script the night before. And while you know the gist of the scene and what your character’s main intent/function is… they truly allow you to play! Since I love improv, this was exciting, though I wish I’d had more to do, because it *was* so much fun and freeing!  Actors on shows like these are definitely lucky duckies in my book…  how neat to get paid on a regular basis to have so much fun. The title of the particular episode I am in is called “The Au Pair” and while I don’t know when it will air just yet- I do know it’s on Thursday nights on F/X!

Then, a couple weeks ago, I worked on an indie film currently called “Republic of Two”- which I think is a good name for the film actually. I don’t know quite why I said ‘currently called’- maybe because all the indies I do seem to get their names changed when they get picked up for distribution. And by all…  I really mean just the 3 we’ve produced now that I think about it? “The Thirst” became Bloodwars… “Disarmed” became Special Ops- and we just found out recently that “Project Fear” is going to be renamed Absolute Fear when it gets released in the late fall/early winter. At least, that is when I think they said it’s coming out? I will check in about that, too.

And shortly before THAT, I worked on a short film called “The Number Nine” with a great group of people. I’m not sure how much I can say about that just yet, but when they release more info I will :-)

What else? Hmmmmm…… Angel City Pit Bulls is going well! Have to admit, it takes up A LOT (too much?) of my time and energy so I am trying to get some balance back. Just so hard, knowing how many are in need, and sometimes I feel like such a small drop of water in an ocean of sadness :( Ewwww. Depressing. Sorry. To try and combat this, I am truly trying to expand upon the education and awareness part of our non-profit, and not just the rescue aspect, which can be very emotionally draining (but also rewarding, beyond words.) Am working on some cool P.S.A.’s to promote positive awareness and perception of the breed, along with responsible ownership. And we’re also starting a new program at the South LA Shelter this weekend to teach volunteers how to work with, train, and care for the pit bulls. So am excited about that. And of course nervous about how many we may fall in love with while we are there. Especially since we are so full on a regular basis. Anyway, I will stop rambling about that- but if you want to learn more- pls do click here to check out our website.

Lastly- am super excited to be back to work on Young Justice Season 2! And still working on The Croods with Dreamworks… Oh how I LOVE the v/o jobs. I just want to do more and more and more. They are so much fun and I get so jazzed every time I work, truly.

Alright, on that note, I must go study my lines for tomorrow’s auditions. Oh wait! That reminds me… I changed agencies a little while back also. After 8 years (though there was a change in ‘management’ during that time so it almost felt like 2 different places) I left Paradigm and signed with APA. So far so good. It was time. New, positive energy only brings more of the same… and I am looking forward to the months ahead. I’ve had a string of close calls these past few months, where I seem to get down to the wire and it’s between me and one other person… but I have faith my time will come. I have to…

Still truckin’

Service: Recap.. and why I’ve gone to the PITS

Thursday, November 11th, 2010 At Work, Service Comments Off

Friends! It seems I’ve been a tad out of the blogosphere lately. So allow me to unleash :)

Work–

Been busy shooting my little role as Rhonda on THE WHOLE TRUTH-   which has been much fun lately as they have been giving me lots more to do! Some yuck news though–  we did NOT get picked up for the rest of the season… and have been pre-empted on the air by a bunch of specials for the entire MONTH of November! That said– we are still shooting all 13 of our original order and we’re going back on in December (still Wed nites at 10pm on ABC.) And regardless of what happens in our show’s future, I have made my mind up to have a fabulous time doing it while I can!

Also been working lots on YOUNG JUSTICE, which is finally going to air in January and I cannot WAIT to  see this project come to life. Seriously, when you watch this preview how do you NOT get excited!?  On top of that, our movie SPECIAL OPS was just released (wooohooo!) so there was much prep work to be done in that arena as well, with marketing and promotions and so forth. Not to mention we are almost done with our *other* movie, PROJECT FEAR, whose trailer will be released soon (!!!!) so it’s been busy, busy, busy with work stuff.

+ VOLUNTEERING–

However the real culprit (as to why I’ve been so busy) has been my non-stop volunteer work with the newly formed, non-profit I helped to co-found called ANGEL CITY PIT BULLS.

Basically, right now, ACPB is small, grass-roots effort, best described as follows:

“a 501(c)(3) pending non-profit organization dedicated to creating a better future for pit bulls in Los Angeles- the “City of Angels” by promoting the positive image of pit bulls as loving family companions while working to stop their abuse, neglect and overpopulation through education, public advocacy, adoptions and the promotion of responsible pet ownership.”

Helping to create a pit-specific rescue evolved from my years of volunteering with Best Friends LA. As I began doing the Pup My Ride transports (which takes small dogs scheduled for euthanasia due to OVER CROWDING in our local high-kill shelters, and transports them to No-Kill Shelters in other states) — truly an incredible program– I often felt more sad than accomplished at the end of each day. While we might save the lives of 20-50 dogs by transporting them out, just as many would get brought in on the same day. Plus, the transport was only for small dogs (because that is what there is a need for in other states.) The big dogs, especially anything mixed with the oft-misunderstood “pit bull” breed, were left behind, and devastatingly my favorite types of dogs (I have 2, they are the loves of our lives!) truly do make up the bulk of the dogs being put to sleep on a daily basis. I tried to take comfort knowing that perhaps in transporting the small dogs out we had bought some more time for the big dogs, since the shelter wasn’t as crowded after a transport day. But the amount of unneutered and unspayed dogs in our city (especially pit bulls and chihuahuas) unfortunately means many unwanted puppies and strays are brought in daily (which is the #1 reason dogs are being killed daily!) The numbers coming in simply don’t mach the amount of people going to the shelter to adopt. Honestly, when I hear of people paying money for dogs from breeders it pains me more than I can put into words. I see so many dogs– both “expensive” and plan old marvelous mutts– all dying in LA shelters and this all could be avoided if proper word and education was spread.  And don’t even get me started on the people who drop off their old pets :( Just horrifying to me. Anyway, it wasn’t long before I felt compelled to do more after seeing so many unnecessary deaths of completely adoptable pets.

So! Being a dog person and a lover of pit bulls (who are just the most misunderstood of all) I found myself continuously taking home adorable adoptable pit-bull mixes every time I left a transport day. Then taking them to my vet, getting them spayed or neutered and all checked out, and then networking them among co-workers and friends and eventually finding them a safe and happy home. In just a few short months, my husband and I, along with a network of fabulous friends, found ourselves placing more and more dogs–  and soon people were writing me to help them or a friend find a new pet in the shelter for them. All the pawsitive reinforcement began to take its effect, and soon I began talking with a dear friend of mine named Katie who was basically doing the exact same thing. Eventually, we decided to join forces to form ACPB, and we are in the process of introducing our armies to one another, and ironing out a system to go on fighting the good fight. I am really excited about building our team, and learning more as we go from all involved since (a) rescuing is a really expensive habit and (b) we see so much sad stuff, we definitely need to have a strong supportive team of good people to lean on!

Our mission is to rescue highly adoptable pit bulls from the shelter with the hope that one day we won’t have to, and that no dogs of any kind will be killed due to space…. That means we will do our part in educating the public about pits and promoting awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering all dogs so that so many do not end up homeless (and PTS in our shelters.) We do not have a facility, we are not a sanctuary. We are just a group of people dedicated to saving highly adoptable dogs from death due to something as simple as OVERCROWDING. To us, that is just not an acceptable reason for a great dog to die. And we hope eventually to be part of the movement that will bring the intake numbers in Los Angeles down, and one day  make our state No Kill.

In the meantime, our program is foster-based only, and we can only save as many dogs as we can safely house. So we are always looking for new volunteers and fosters. Please write info@angelcitypits.org to learn more if you would like to help! We make sure our Angel City Pits get proper medical care at the vet, we potty train them,  teach how to walk well on a leash, we well as their basic commands. All of which, of course, costs money. We definitely need help to make it all happen– from donations of leashes, martingale collars, crates, blankets– to money. Especially when we take on medical cases (a couple of our dogs need surgery for instance, some have gotten very sick from being at the shelter, etc) so the vet bills add up! So I conclude by sharing with you all this awesome little fundraiser we have going on! Which is truly perfect for all the animal lovers out there.

Angel City Pit Bulls has partnered with the fabulous Sugar Bean Jewelry to present to you… The PAW charm! Available in silver or gold, on a delicate necklace or a bracelet made of beautiful black beads, these pieces are simply divine! And what’s even better? 40% of the proceeds of each sale goes directly to our non-profit! All you have to do is type in the voucher code ANGELwhen checking out, and you get FREE SHIPPING and we get 40% of your total cost. And you get a SUPER CUTE necklace and/or bracelet!!! A win-win for everyone. So please… show your support for animals in need and get some great holiday gifts for the animals lovers in your life :)

Thanks so much for caring… and sharing!

M&R: The best birthday gift of all…

Thursday, July 1st, 2010 Musings and Reflection, Service Comments Off

A couple days ago I celebrated my birthday by asking friends to join me for some tasty wine, even tastier cheese, and lots of cuddles with a dozen fabulous doggies I personally know and love that are currently available for adoption! For me, it was a glorious night, with so many shiny happy people having fun, loving  doggies, taking pics with them and forwarding those pics to friends of friends. My goal was to raise money for the charity, build awareness of the death sentences facing so many innocent homeless pets, and– of course– find some beloved rescues their new fur-ever homes :)

Since I started volunteering several years ago with the Best Friends Animal Society, I have truly seen / experienced / benefited from /and been inspired by the *amazing* (& tireless!) work these volunteers do both in the shelters and beyond (fostering rescues, taking them to weekly mobile adoption events, caring for their medical issues, rehabilitating those who have been abused, training them, and getting them ready for their new lives and homes that they so deserve!) Always an animal lover and with 2 gorgeous rescue dogs of my own, it’s a cause that is near and dear to my heart.  Sadly, the animal shelters of Los Angeles are almost always full, and many beautiful, wonderful, loving pets are euthanized due to overcrowding and need for space. While I know this is supposed to be “humane”, it sure doesn’t feel that way– when so many innocent lives are unnecessarily being terminated… daily. There are ways to combat this, and I love the BFAS’s approach. In addition to funding and coordinating the rescues of so many pets, they have also created some fantastic campaigns to help end this cycle of sadness and death. Below I have listed some of my favorites, which I encourage you to click on and learn more about:

No More Homeless Pets: Our Mission to Save Lives

Best Friends is working with you and with humane groups all across the country to bring about a time when homeless, unwanted animals are no longer being destroyed in shelters, and when every healthy dog or cat can be guaranteed a good life in a caring home. By participating in one of the campaigns below, you can save lives, and help make our shared dream of No More Homeless Pets a reality.
Helping people provide a loving, forever home for their pets
Keeping cats safe and out of shelters
Exposing the puppy mill / pet store connection and encouraging adoption
Restoring the image of pit bulls and challenging breed discrimination

The last campagin is very near and dear to my heart, since both of my dogs are “Pittie Mixes” and they are truly the most loving, loyal, and wonderful little men I have ever encountered.

<—— I mean… just look at these cuddle bugs!?

So without further adieu, I just want to say THANK YOU for reading this today, and supporting this cause. It’s truly the best birthday gift I can ask for.

Stephanie

CHARITY: William Shatner’s Charity Horse Show

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 Service Comments Off

Last night, I had the honor of attending (the charismatic, inspiring, and all around fantastic) William Shatner‘s Charity Horse Show with the writers, producers, and fellow cast members of our current CBS pilot “Bleep My Dad Says” at the L.A. Equestrian Center. Not only did I have a wonderful time (which included being mesmerized as Sarah McLachlan performed live right in front of us, and yes, she sounded amazing live!) but I also learned about some great charities that I can’t help tell you about below… Please feel free to share and support if they move you the way they did me… and click here to go to Mr. Shatner’s website to learn even more!

Ahead with Horses is an organization that works with handicapped children by using equine-therapy to help them learn to adjust to their challenging lives and become more mobile. The stories of these children—some of whom suffer from autism and many of whom have such severe physical handicaps that they can’t even walk—will inspire you.  Every day, Ahead With Horses works to maximize the potential of disabled, disadvantaged and special-needs children by providing the opportunity to experience the measurable improvement – physically, mentally, socially and emotionally – that can give them the chance to be a child.

Camp Max Straus: For many other young children of all races and denominations, the struggle to have a safe and happy childhood is an overwhelming challenge.  Camp Max Straus offers both a traditional summer camp program and High Sierra backpacking to underprivileged children in Los Angeles County.  They participate in evening campfires, hands-on ranch and garden programs, archery, swimming, horseback riding, drama, music, crafts and so much more.  Almost 50,000 children have benefited since 1938, regardless of their ability to pay.

CHARITY: Free Arts for Abused Children
